All About Daily 5

Over the past few weeks, we have begun our Daily 5 adventure. This is the reading and writing program we use in our classroom. During Daily 5, students are busy completing meaningful literacy tasks. Their choices include read to self, work on writing, word work, listen to reading, and read to someone.

Right now, we are focusing on increasing our stamina to work independently during read to someone and word work. After building our stamina for 20 minutes, students will have successfully learned how to complete the last two components of Daily 5. Using the Daily 5 in first grade will allow students to smoothly transition into second grade, where they will also use the same literacy program. Check out the pictures below to see Daily 5 in action.

Word Work:

While the students are completing their literacy tasks, Mr. Brad and I meet with small groups. We also use this time to conference with individual students. Please check back soon to see if we met our goals and to learn about our math interactive journals!
