Five for Friday!

Hello October! I can't believe how quickly the time flies. We've been into everything lately. To give you a peak, here's a look at five things that have been going on in our classroom and some events that are coming up too.

We celebrated two birthdays in the month of September! Evie's birthday was on the 22nd and Lila celebrated on the 28th. They both turned seven years old. Happy birthday girls!

Students have been working hard to build their interactive math journals. This year, instead of providing students with ordinary textbooks, students are using a hands-on approach to build their own personal math notebooks. Not only are they able to be creative, but students are engaged and excited about math too.

In September, we worked on counting to 120. Students also took their first math test to prove what they had learned. Everyone made me proud and aced the assessment! Currently, we are learning how to represent numbers using tens and ones. Here are pictures of Brittany, Lila, and Allie playing Spin-A-Number.

**We will take our next assessment on place value towards the end of next week.

We just completed our science unit on force and motion. Students spent the last few weeks learning the importance of push and pull and how forces can cause objects to move without touching them. To learn more about this concept, students explored magnetic poles. They also experimented with common objects to see if they were magnetic or not. (I'm sorry I don't have pictures of our experiments. I'll try to grab my camera more often.) We are beginning our social studies unit on communities and members' roles next week!

Next week is spirit week at PCS! Here's a look at our upcoming dress up days:
Monday- Country Day
Tuesday- Tacky Day
Wednesday- Character Day
Thursday- Favorite Team Day
Friday- Spirit Day (Wear your Run For Gracie shirts)

**Next Saturday, October 11th, is Run For Gracie. Please see our school's website for more information.

The end of the 1st nine weeks falls on Tuesday, October 21. K-2 will be having parent-teacher conferences at the end of that week to explain your child's report card and to discuss how your child is doing. To make scheduling easier, I have created a Google Doc that allows you to sign up for a time electronically. I will fill in the available meeting times soon. Please check back over the next couple of weeks to sign up for a conference time that works for you.
